Post Abortion Ministry
Rachel post-abortion scripture and support group will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at St. John's Hospital Conference Room F from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. This is sponsored by the Office for Social concerns. Ice Cream Social
The Brinkerhoff Home Foundation Annual 2006 Ice Cream Social will be held Friday, July 14 on the Brinkerhoff Home Lawn at 1500 North Fifth Street from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Rain or Shine! Tickets are $3.50 or three for $10.00 for ice cream, cake or pie, and drink. Brats and drink are $2.50, and hot dogs and drink are $1.50. The Springfield Municipal Band will play from 6:00-8:00 p.m. All proceeds go to the maintenance and restoration of the Brinkerhoff Home.

The third annual Auction Dinner will be held October 6th at the Crowne Plaza. Please plan to join parishioners, parents, alumni, and friends in supporting our parish and school. The Auction Dinner is our major fund raiser of the year. Reservations will be taken beginning in mid August. We hope to see you there! Vacation Bible School
St. Joseph's Vacation Bible School, "Fiesta! Where kids are fired up about Jesus" will be held July 16-20 from 5:30-8:30 P.M. If you have not registered, you may call the office or fill out one of the forms located at the entrances of the Church.

About 50 children are expected to attend and you can help by donating any of these items: single serving cans of Pringles, cans of chocolate and vanilla frosting, red apples, twizzlers pull and peal, mini marshmallows, clear cups of blue gelatin, waffle pretzels, round crackers, and squirt cans of cheese. These items may be dropped off at the church office Monday-Thursday, 8:30-4:40 before July 15. Thank you for your support of our Vacation Bible School.
Megan McKenna - Workshop/ Performance
"One World, Many Stories, One Story, Many Worlds"

Megan McKenna, internationally known author, lecturer, theologian and storyteller will be at St. Joseph's Parish, Springfield on July 8 in the school cafeteria.  Ms. McKenna will present a storytelling workshop from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and a storytelling performance at 7:00 p.m.  The cost of the workshop is $25.00, the performance is $10.00, or both for $30.  For information or registration, please call Sue Tapscott at 364-4858.

This workshop and concert is sponsored by the Prairie Grapevine Folklore Society, the Greater Springfield Interfaith Association, the Illinois Arts Council, and St. Joseph Church. During the workshop participants will learn how to choose stories for groups, how to find them, and how to tell them.

Megan McKenna has graduate degrees in Scripture, Adult Education and Literacy from the Graduate Theological Union and the University of California, Berkeley, and a Masters in Systematic Theology from Catholic University, Washington D.C. But foremost she is a lover of words: the Scriptures, stories and tales, poetry, images and phrases spoken aloud, written down and spun to make meaning and how these both convert and transform us and bring meaning and hope to the world.
Next St. Joseph Youth Night
Sunday, June 25th

High school-aged teens are invited to spend an evening talking about important issues. Discussion will be directed by youth-friendly adults from our parish. An open gym and snacks will conclude our evening.
Parish Potluck
The next parish potluck will be held on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. at the Sullivan House. The hosts will be Mary Disseler and Jim Hoffman (585-8381). A special invitation is extended to the new members of the parish council. The new incoming members will be welcomed and the outgoing members will be thanked for their past efforts.
A Service of Remembrance
A Service of Remembrance will be held in honor of all United States Veterans on July 4th at 10:00 a.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery south of Lincoln's Tomb. This remembrance is sponsored by the Bishop McNicholas Catholic War Veterans Post 1916 and Staab Funeral Home. Please bring lawn chairs for your comfort. In case of rain the service will be held at the Oak Ridge Cemetery Chapel.
