Week of February 12 - 16
ACRE Testing -- Eighth graders took their ACRE test this past week. Students were asked to answer questions relating to their understanding of the teachings of our Catholic Church. This test is designed to help Catholic educators evaluate the scope and effectiveness of our religion program. Since taking the test, our class has discussed many of the questions on the test. I was pleased—although not surprised—to find that a large majority of the topics covered were very familiar to our students.

Kindergarten Buddies will meet with us this coming Friday. Activity to be determined!

Social Studies Fair -- Family History booklets are due on Monday.

Both language arts classes are working on the second component of the fair: research papers. So far, my class has covered choosing/narrowing a topic, choosing sources, writing bibliography cards, creating a working outline, and note taking. This week we’ll concentrate on note taking and writing a thesis statement. Students should also be working at home.

What many students have discovered is that they need a more varied set of sources. This means a trip to the library for good old-fashioned books, microfiche, magazines, newspapers, and Internet sources! Parent cooperation is needed in this endeavor.

Due date for research paper: Monday, March 5

Social Studies Fair: Thursday, March 8

Science: I need twenty-four 1 or 2 liter clear plastic bottles with caps by Tuesday, February 20 for a very cool experiment. Pass the word!

Behavior Honor Roll participants are allowed to be out of uniform on Tuesday for their ice skating expedition. Appropriate dress required, of course. Weather permitting; students will walk to Nelson Center, so make certain to dress warmly. Signed permission forms required and chaperones are needed. Students will eat at noon and leave at 12:20. They will be welcomed back around 2:00 with hot chocolate in the cafeteria.

Internet Safety Program: 7:00 p.m. in the St. Agnes School gym
